I went to the Institut du Monde Arabe today and saw the Venise & l'Orient exhibit. It was nice, lots of old stuff, but nothing fantastic. The coolest thing was seeing the influence each of the two cultures had on one another. Apparently, both cultures were quite fascinated with each other and more importantly, they respected each other and were open to trade. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any pictures in the museum, but I took some from the top of the building.
There is a tea room at the top and it is slightly tacky but also slightly classy. It is very expensive, but has a great view. This picture doesn't do it justice, honest! Maybe next week I will have some better pictures.

I think I would have found the cultural influences more interesting than the actual stuff too. Was there a particular influence that stood out for you?
The color influence in the Italian paintings. It definitely came from the East. And the East loved parmesan.
Looks like a fun outting. And I know I would have loved the view. Reminds me of the pic I tried to take last night. It's like you were wishing you were just 1 ft taller. ;-)

I think I'm going to love cultural Wednesdays! I've never been to the Institut du Monde Arabe but it's on my lists of things to visit. It's been a while since I've hit a museum and there are so many to see...so keep us updated and I'll keep living through you. I love the pix as well.
Visiting museums is probably my most favorite thing to do in the world! I would have loved to have gone to this exhibition - it sounds wonderful, Angela, thanks for sharing this with us!
